ASUU STRIKE: ''if FG go this way, the crisis will not be resolved in the next 100 Years” - ASUU Warns FG!

Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities [ASUU], Calabar Zone, has reacted angrily to the order to return to the classrooms issued to them by the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, saying that the action would worsen the strike action rather than solving the problem.

ASUU accused the minister of deceiving
President Jonathan on the crisis, alleging that
Wike and some other unnamed officials of
the Government did not want the lingering
problem between the union and the Federal Government to be resolved.

According to the zonal coordinator of ASUU
Calabar zone, Dr. Charles Ononuju, with such threat the crisis would linger far longer than expected.

In a statement in Umuahia,. Ononuju said that the union received with shock the
pronouncement by the supervising minister,
saying the crisis could not be resolved that
way.

“We received with shock the pronouncement of by the Supervising Minister of Education, Wike, that lecturers should resume work or be sacked”, Ononuju said.

He said that the union had gone far with
discussion on how to resolve the crisis and
was waiting for President Goodluck
Jonathan’s reply to their letter after their meeting when the minister came up with the
“unfortunate” pronouncement.

“Sacking lecturers will not solve the problem
but will compound it. Wike should resign and
come to the university and teach. This is not
the way to go if they go this way, the crisis will not be resolved in the next 100 years”, he
warned.

Wicked: Newborn Baby Found Dead Inside Polythene Bag inLagos (SEE PHOTOS)

A newborn baby boy wrapped in white clothing placed inside a polythene bag was dumped at the back-yard of a compound in Jemtok Street, along Ago-Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
The baby was believed to have been dumped by an unknown person, probably a mother. He was discovered at around 8p.m. on November 24, 2013, Sunday.

It was unfortunate that the baby was already dead before it was seen. The baby allegedly died of suffocation, while placed in the bag, due to lack of ventilation.

Whoever committed such crime, he/she must get the punishment according to law, and according to God’s will as well.

Okonjo Iweala appeals to ASUU to call off strike

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of
Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo‑Iweala, weekend, appealed to the
striking university lecturers to call off the strike and resume
teaching.

She said this after she and the Governor of the Central Bank of
Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi bagged doctorate
honorary doctorate degrees at a private university,
OduduwaUniversity, Ipetumodu in OsunState.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, according to the Vice
Chancellor, Professor Adeleke Ogunwale, nominated the two
eminent Nigerians for the award as part of activities marking the
maiden convocation of the institution which produced 18 first
class graduates out of 166 that graduated.

Dr. Iweala was awarded honorary Doctor of Science in
Accounting, her counterpart was honoured with Doctor of
Science in Economics.

The ceremony attracted important dignitaries like the Ooni of
Ife, Oba Sijuwade who was represented by his wife, Chief
Mojisola Sijuwade; the Pro Chancellor/Chairman, Governing
Council, Dr. Adegoke Adedoyin, among others.

She said: “We are indeed saddened by the death of Professor
Iyayi. I appeal to ASUU to go back to school in the interest of
students, their parents, because the Federal Government has
acceded to their requests.”

The Minister said this just as she clarified that the shortfall in the
federal allocation to state governments in the federation did
not have any political colouration as being insinuated in some
quarters.

According to her: “There is no politics in it. Every state goes to
Federal Allocation Committee meeting monthly; they see the
account and know that oil production is down and the receipts
are down.

“They know Customs’ revenues are down, yet we distribute
whatever that is to be distributed. From that, we have been able
to manage this country and workers have been able to collect
their salaries.

On the need for the revitalisation of tertiary education, she said:
“Our tertiary institutions face serious challenges which require
urgent attention. President Jonathan injects N220billion a year
on top of regular resources to address challenges in tertiary
education.”

She gave N50,000 prize each year for the best student in
Accounting and Economics as a personal contribution to the
development of the institution.

In his own short response, Mallam Sanusi said though, the
economy was becoming stable, the effects of the growth should
be seen in the life of a common man on the street”.

The Vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adeleke Ogunwale,
commended the Ooni of Ife for giving hundreds of acres for the
establishment of the institution which came to being in2009.

He hinted that the institution graduated 166 students with18
first class, 63 second upper division and 82 lower class. Out of
the 18 first class, 10 of them are ladies. The honorees have
impacted positively on people. Patience Jonathan. Today, we
confer doctor of science in accounting on Dr. Iweala while
Mallam Sanusi was awarded. doctor of science in Economics.

Photo: Nigeria Music Icon, D’banj Break Up With his Girlfriend ofeight months, Jennifer Obayuwana!

Oh dear, koko master, D’banj and his boo of eight months,
Jennifer Obayuwana are no longer together.
A new report from Maestromedia indicates so.
The news portal reports thus:

“Jennifer Obayuwana is the fashionista daughter of the very
stylish Mr. John Obayuwana, the MD/CEO of one of Nigeria’s topmost Luxury company, known to all as POLO LTD.
In fact Jenny or J-Wonder, like most who know her prefers to
call her, is the very hardworking, globe-trotting Executive
Director of the 5-star company.

Since she took up more powerful executive role in her father’s company (which includes CAT Construction), which in a way she practically runs now, it has been an upward swing unprecedented for the brand, with many world renowned watch brands the likes of Rolex, Breguet, Cartier, Hublot, Gaga Milano etc coming on board and having very strategic relationship with Polo Ltd, all of these successes kudos to the gorgeous & hardworking Jennifer.

All the while she was having great successes on the business
front, she was also seemingly having fun on the love front then with her then beau D Banj.

Since Dapo Oyebanji aka D banj, aka Banger Lee, the only Eja
Nla in Nigeria let it slip sometime ago that he & Jennifer were in a love relationship, loads & loads of media frenzy followed the revelation.

To some then, it was like it was a match made in heaven; With D
banj being the most visible Nigerian entertainer in the world
and an eligible bachelor at that, whilst Jennifer, is also an
eligible bachelorette, one that is being primed to take over her father’s multimillion dollar rated company.

Everyone was thinking it would be like one of those happily
ever after love stories we get to read about in all those novels. With many openly exclaiming how wow it was that finally, someone of Jennifer’s pedigree was the one, that had finally won the heart of such a player as D banj.

But alas, after only a few months of the whirlwind romance, which many had thought might have led to one of the weddings of the year, the steam in the love relationship seem to have totally evaporated, the once celebrated love has since waned and in its place just a platonic friendship remains; with both sides just there for each other, to support each other as friends any which way they can.

Jennifer, who only just returned a few weeks ago from a short
course at the Columbia Business School, Manhattan, New York, USA where she had gone to brush up on her knowledge of business, preparatory for some bigger challenges ahead, has since moved on to pasture new.

According to some little information we could gather, the very very busy schedule of the duo, coupled with some ‘other factors’ might have been the reason(s) for the break-up. Now unlike sometimes ago in the immediate past, when it was always stress coupled with so much anxiety for Jennifer while the relationship was still hot hot, it has been more of bliss and contentment now for her now, since both have parted ways and moved on. ”

taking guests in.

But when Iyanya got to the entrance, the bouncers said

GOOD NEWS!! ASUU Considers Calling Off strike after 13-hour meeting with Jonathan!!

President Goodluck Jonathan (left); ASUU Vice President, Mr. Biodun Ogunyemi Onabanjo (2nd right); Vice President Namadi Sambo (2nd left) and ASUU President, Nasir Faggae (right) during the meeting.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday led a negotiation meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the protracted strike embarked upon by the union since July 1.
The13-hour meeting started at about 2.30 p.m. on Monday at the Presidential Villa and ended at 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The meeting had in attendance the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by their respective Chairmen Abduwaheed Omar and Bobbo Kaigama.
The ASUU team was led by the union’s President, Dr. Nasir Fagge, three former presidents of the union, professors Dipo Fashina, Abdullahi Sule-Kano and Festus Iyayi as well as professors Biodun Osiyemi, Victor Osodeke, Suleiman Abdullahi and Dr. Victor Igbum.
On the government negotiation team were, Vice President Namadi Sambo; Minister of Labour, Chukwuemeka Wogu; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Minister of State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike.
Also on the government side were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Mike Oghiadome, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie.
Emerging from the meeting, Fagge told State House correspondents that the president had given the delegation a message to its members which would enable the union to call off the strike.
“We have had a lengthy meeting with Mr President, rubbing minds on the ways to address the problems of university education in this country.
“We now have a message from Mr President that we are going to take to our members and we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr President,” he said
Asked whether union would call off the strike and return to work based on the message from the meeting, Fagge said “that is up to our members.”
Wogu, who spoke for the government, said that the meeting ended positively and the message of the President to ASUU “is full of hope and high expectations.
“The message is full of hope and expectations and our prayer is that they come back with positive response.
“They might not even come back to meet us; they might even take decisions there that will meet your expectations.”
Wogu noted that the offer made by the president was in line with the 2009 agreement reached with the union.
“The offer is within the issues that led to the strike; the issues contained in the 2009 agreement and we did not go beyond the agreement,” he said.
He appealed to Nigerians to be patient with ASUU and gave an assurance that the outcome of the meeting would be positive.
The president appeared to be in high spirits when he entered the venue of the meeting.
While shaking hands with the ASUU president, he exclaimed: “My president! All the problems will be over today; our children must go back to school.”
The president proceeded to shake hands with everyone in attendance at the meeting.
Also, while shaking hands with Omar and Kaigama, Jonathan said: “My presidents, with you here, I am assured everything will go on well, it is signed and sealed.”
The meeting went into a 30-minute break at 6.20 p.m.
During the period, the ASUU delegation went out of the venue of the meeting to the road where the bus that conveyed them was packed and held consultations inside the bus for about 25 minutes.
Prior to the arrival of the ASUU and labour team for the meeting, the president held a closed-door consultation with members of his team.
The discussion, which lasted for about 40 minutes, was attended by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Adoke (SAN).
It will be recalled that ASUU embarked on strike on July 1 over the government failure to implement an agreement reached with the union in 2009 for improved funding for infrastructure development in the universities and payment of lecturers’ Earned Allowances.
Government had set up two committees to address the issues to resolve the crisis but the inability of the committees to reach agreements with ASUU led to the vice-president taking over the negotiation.
On Sept. 19, the vice-president held a special negotiation meeting with the leadership of ASUU and offered an improved government position on the matter but the union rejected the offer.
Many Nigerians have appealed to ASUU to call off the strike. (NAN)
