TWO candidates who sat for the Unified
Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME),
yesterday, lost their lives in a multiple road
crash along Owo-Ikare road in Ondo State.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that the auto crash
involved a tipper, a Nissan car and a Peugeot J5 vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said two out of the vehicles
were coming from Offa in Kwara State when
the crash occurred.
It was learnt that the tipper overtook the
Peugeot J5 vehicle while trying to negotiate a bend before ramming into the Nissan car conveying the candidates.
The Head of Operations of the Federal Road
Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ikare Akoko, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the death of the
candidates.
Ibitoye said three other sustained various
degrees of injuries and were on admission at Ikare Specialist Hospital.
He added that the corpses of the two
candidates were deposited at the hospital
mortuary.
Ibitoye pointed out that the deceased
candidates could not be identified.
