Fulani herdsmen rape mother of 3 to death in Ogun State

Some Fulani herdsmen are alleged to have raped and murdered a middle aged mother of three in Ogun State.

A middle-aged mother of three who has been identified as Ayesi Balogun, has been reportedly raped to death by some Fulani herdsmen at Asa community of Yewa North local government area of Ogun State.
According to New Telegraph Newspaper, the ugly incident which has thrown the community into confusion, occurred on Saturday when Balogun was on her way to her farmland.

This sordid act was made known by an indigenous pressure group, Ketu Advancement Front (KAF), which raised the alarm over the resurgence of killings by suspected herdsmen in the area.

In a statement signed by the group's Coordinator-General and Secretary, Kunle Abiose and Joseph Bankole, Balogun’s death brought to 25 the number of innocent people who had been sent to their early graves by marauders in the local government.

"We are sad to announce that Mrs Ayesi Balogun, a poor mother of three, was raped and hacked to death on her farm in Asa, Yewa North local government area of Ogun State over the weekend by Fulani herdsmen.

On sighting her entering the farm, the killer-herdsmen, who had taken over her farm, pounced on her, probably gang-raped her before hacking her to death.

Mrs Balogun’s case brought to over 25, the number of our innocent and poor people who had been sent to their early graves in seriously agonising and dehumanising circumstances not to talk of several others who had been maimed."

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. Adejobi however added that the killing might have been a reprisal because an unidentified corpse of a Fulani person was discovered in the area a day earlier.

He said that the police had already summoned the leadership of the two warring communities in the area to a peace meeting today in Abeokuta.
