Things will get better in Nigeria from May 29. Big men in government can no longer beat traffic any more and even push Nigerians out of the road simply because we voted them into political office.

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has ordered all security personnel attached to him as well as his official escorts to obey traffic rules like all other Nigerians on the road, at all times.

Buhari was quoted as saying obedience to the law would be the guiding philosophy of his administration, adding that “without leadership by example, the ordinary citizens would become copycats of the lawlessness of their leaders.”

PDP will bounce back in 2019 – President Jonathan Declares

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan declared Thursday in Abuja that if members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) remain committed to the vision of its founding fathers and work very hard, the party will return to power at the Federal level in 2019. Speaking after receiving the report of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization at the Presidential Villa, President Jonathan said that the party already had all that it will require to win the 2019 elections, but needed to return to the drawing board to re-strategize for the future.

Okorocha Emerges Winner Of Imo Governorship Election

The incumbent Governor Rochas Okorocha has secured victory after yesterdays supplementary polls to conclude the inconclusive governorship election in Imo State.

Okorocha, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has beaten Emeka Ihedioha, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by 416,996 votes. Mr. Ihedioha scored 320,705 votes. Congrats to him!!!

Wole Soyinka: Nobel laureat condemns Rivers polls

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has described as atrocious the violence that characterised the presidential and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State.

There were reports of violence ranging from setting the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on fire, to the beheading of an unidentified civilian.

Soyinka, who rated democratic experience in Nigeria below 40 per cent, blamed the Rivers violence on political leaders and the military.

He gave his position in an interview with the Channels Television on Sunday afternoon.

He said, “If you talk about democracy, I am afraid, we are still below 40 per cent.

Despite Conceding Defeat, Lagos PDP Rejects governorship election results

Though APC Lagos governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode has been declared winner, even receiving a congratulatory call from PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje, the Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are not accepting the results.
In a statement by its Legal Adviser, Mr. Adeleke Adefala, said card readers were manipulated in areas where the APC won.

The statement, addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, read,

My Lagos visit, not to rig for Agbaje –President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan today faulted a claim by the All Progressives Congress that his Thursday visit to Lagos was to coordinate rigging plans for the Peoples Democratic Party in the Saturday governorship election.

He wondered why he would rig the governorship election for the PDP when he did not rig the March 28 presidential election in which he was a candidate.

Jonathan’s position was contained in a statement made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

When Orubebe took to the floor on the result collation day to disrupt proceedings at the Collation centre,People feared for the worst. Just imagine what would have happened if one or two of the security men had forcefully tried to remove him. He would have fought them off, the other PDP agents would have come to his defense and the police would have been called in to remove everyone using teargas.

That would have been the end of it. In the ensuing melee, the result sheets would have disappeared and all hell would have broke loose.
