Buhari Threatens to Drag NTA and AIT to Court Over Hate Broadcasts

The Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret), has threatened to take legal action against the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, and the African Independent Television, AIT, for airing hate broadcasts against his personality, reports Vanguard

This came on a day the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, warned all broadcasting stations operating in the country to adhere strictly to the provisions of the broadcasting code or risk sanctions. In a protest letter lodged through the Legal Director of APC Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, SAN, Buhari, insisted that the two television stations must not only retract the “hate documentaries,” but also issue a public apology to him.

Man hangs self in uncompleted building in Lagos

Residents of Ile-Iwe community in the Meiran area of Lagos State say they were shocked to see the dangling body of a stranger in an uncompleted building in the area.

Some of the residents told PUNCH Metro that the victim was on Thursday brought down dead from the rope with which he hung himself.

They added that efforts by the people in the community and the police to identify him had proved abortive.

Our correspondent gathered that the stranger, who wore a white caftan, took his life between Wednesday night and Thursday morning after sneaking into the building in the night of Wednesday.

The incident happened on Lawal Unity Street, Meiran, Ile-Iwe bus stop. The uncompleted building is isolated from the rest of the houses in the area.

Helicopters dropping More Arms and Food for Boko Haram

Displaced residents of Monguno, in Borno State, which was recently taken over by Boko Haram, have said they saw helicopters dropping arms and food items for the insurgents in the tick bushes.

The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who said they spent about 48 hours in the bush running towards the city of Maiduguri, expressed worry that the Boko Haram sect was not the only ones involved in the insurgency, but that there are many foreign fighters and some external supports.

Leader of the Nigeria Vigilante Group in Monguno, Muhammed Sani, said he had, on several occasions, spotted unusual delivery of items in big wooden boxes by air, and sacks being dropped in the bushes around Marte and Monguno where Boko Haram terrorists were camped.

“Even during the attack on Monguno, there was an aircraft that came but did not do anything, not even dropping a single bomb before it left; then another one later came around the Monguno barracks and we saw four men alighting from the aircraft, using a rope. The aircraft left, but we doubt if they were soldiers...

Nollywood is suffering from so many problems. One of these problems is the sycophancy from the industry’s leaders, the people in power. I mean the people running the industry are just running after politicians. Nollywood as a whole don’t have good leaders. All they do is attach themselves to politicians and seek for political office instead of restructuring the industry.  We don’t even have a standard office; we are not united and we are not financially structured. You can ask the upcoming stars how they cope; they will tell you the truth of what they pass through to have a role in a movie, especially the ladies. Some of them have abandoned their education to become movie makers. Our leaders are just using and dumping. I mean they are just using the upcoming artistes to act movies and achieve their aims. Sometimes they feature them in their movies without paying them.

Boko Haram launch new assault on Maiduguri this morning

These insurgents have been trying to capture this town for a while now. There are reports of a fresh attack on the city of Maiduguri, in Borno by Boko Haram militants. According to reports, armed men stormed the city in the early hours of today, trying to enter Maiduguri through a suburb community called Dalwa. Loud gun fire is being heard on the streets of the northern city as many residents flee.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idriss, said people were fleeing the south, but also moving into Maiduguri from the surrounding areas, fearing fresh attacks from other directions.
