Algae Converted To Crude Oil In Under An Hour-see Picture And Video

It used to take a million years to convert algae to oil, but scientists at the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), say they have developed a process to do the job in minutes.

In the PNNL process, a slurry of wet algae with the consistency of pea soup is pumped into the front end of a chemical reactor. Once the system is up and running, out comes crude oil in less than an hour, along with water and a byproduct stream of material containing phosphorus that can be recycled to grow more algae.

While algae has long been considered a potential source of biofuel, and several companies have produced algae-based fuels on a research scale, the fuel is projected to be expensive. The PNNL technology harnesses algae's energy potential efficiently and incorporates a number of methods to reduce the cost of producing algae fuel.

"Cost is the big roadblock for algae-based fuel," said Douglas Elliott, the laboratory fellow who led the PNNL team's research. "We believe that the process we've created will help make algae biofuels much more economical."

The most important cost-saving step is that the process works with wet algae. Most current processes require the algae to be dried — a process that takes a lot of energy and is expensive. The new process works with an algae slurry that contains as much as 80 to 90 percent water.

"Not having to dry the algae is a big win in this process; that cuts the cost a great deal," said Elliott. "Then there are bonuses, like being able to extract usable gas from the water and then recycle the remaining water and nutrients to help grow more algae, which further reduces costs."

Other processes for converting algae to oil exist, but according to PNNL, their process can continuously convert 1.5 liters of slurry into biofuel per hour.

They say additionally their process eliminates the need for complex solvents like hexane.

Instead, the PNNL team works with the whole algae, subjecting it to very hot water under high pressure to tear apart the substance, converting most of the biomass into liquid and gas fuels.

The PNNL method requires a lot of heat and a lot of pressure, which together causes what is called hydrothermal liquefaction and catalytic hydrothermal gasification. While not cheap to build, Elliott says the savings “on the back end more than makes up for the investment.”

"It's a bit like using a pressure cooker, only the pressures and temperatures we use are much higher," he said. "In a sense, we are duplicating the process in the Earth that converted algae into oil over the course of millions of years. We're just doing it much, much faster."

A biofuels company, Utah-based Genifuel Corp., has licensed the technology and is working with an industrial partner to build a pilot plant using the technology. The company has been working with Elliott since 2008.

The research results were reported in the journal Algal Research.

Here's a short video about the process:

Nigerian doctor attacks female patient who disagreed with diagnosis

A Nigerian doctor allegedly attacked a female
patient in his surgery when she disagreed with his diagnosis, UK Daily Mail reports.

Dr Abiodun Bale, 42, (pictured above) grabbed Sheena Cunningham as she
tried to leave his consultation room in
tears after they argued over treatment
for a facial condition. The doctor from Nigeria denied assault when he appeared in court but was found guilty after a two-day trial. He was given a six-month conditional
discharge but will face a disciplinary
hearing at work and could lose his job. Bale, who qualified as a doctor at the University of Lagos in 1995, worked as a gynaecologist in his home country before coming to Britain and registering with the General Medical Council in 2006.

He was given a licence to practice here in
November 2009 and was on a placement, for
specialty GP training, at Hyndburn Medical
Practice in Accrington, Lancashire, when the
assault happened on March 26.
Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said Bale had asked Mrs Cunningham to come in to the
practice after a telephone consultation about a problem with her face, during which she had become distressed.
When she arrived, the doctor told Mrs
Cunningham she might need to call for an ambulance if her condition deteriorated later when the surgery was closed.
Mr Harrison told Burnley Magistrates' Court:
'She didn't want to do this and at this point he raised his voice.'
Mrs Cunningham was frightened, got up to leave and said she wanted a second opinion,
the court was told. '[Bale] became agitated
and, as she stepped out, he grabbed her hand
to prevent her closing the door,' Mr Harrison
said.
'He then grabbed her by the forearm with both hands and tried to drag her back into the room. She screamed and shouted at him to get off her arm. This attracted the attention of another doctor and two cleaners. The other doctor told Bale to go back into his office and then escorted Mrs Cunningham out of the surgery.'
The court was told that a week earlier the GP,
who lives in Manchester, 'flipped' at another
patient, shouting at her: 'For God's sake, I have other people to see besides you.' 'She got up to leave and he tried to grab her hand. She felt frightened and vulnerable,' said Mr Harrison.
Bale claimed the incident with Mrs Cunningham was a misunderstanding, saying:
'I'm a doctor, not a thug.'
But Mr Harrison said: 'There was no mistake or misunderstanding. She was crying so loudly that two ladies outside heard her crying.'
After the allegations, the GMC placed
conditions on how Bale worked, including
allowing him to carry out consultations only
if another qualified medical practitioner was
present. The Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust, which employs Bale, said he would face disciplinary proceedings.
'The trust will now consider the consequences for his ongoing employment and training,' a spokesman said. Culled from UK Daily Mail

How Sesan Ogunro Snr was killed....son recounts finalmoments

One of the sons of adverting guru and MD of Eminent Communications, Mr Sesan Ogunro,
who was killed on Sunday night by armed
robbers, Timayo, has recounted how his father was killed.

"It was a night of Christmas carol at the church. After the main carol service, people went down to eat. There was a man who tried to steal some money from someone and my father caught him. Other deacons and the minister of God started talking to the guy about what happened. That took some time. "So, as this continued, people started to leave the church premises. Eventually, it was just myself, my mum and my dad, some children and a few disciples of
the church who remained behind. He said. Continue...

"My dad said I should take my mum and the children home, since it was getting late. We
went outside and my mum remembered that
she left some water in my dad's car. So, my dad went to get the water from across the road. As I was about to open the door for everyone to get in, the gunmen came in a blue Sienna. I saw what happened but I couldn't hear what they were saying.

"There were five of them. They spread out.
Three of them came to me and hit me. I went
down and gave them everything in my hand,
including the car keys. I went down with my mum and the kids while two of the attackers
walked up to my dad. He wanted to take the
keys to his car but my dad told them: 'Just take it; just take it.' You know these guys:
obviously, they were high and they just shot
him."

"Lagos State Police Command's spokesperson Ngozi Braide, a Deputy
Superintendent (DSP) said: "About 22:42 hours (10 pm) on December 22, a distress call was received by the Alausa Division of the police command. It was gathered that four armed men operating in a Honda Odyssey
attempted to snatch a Mercedes Benz ML jeep belonging to Mr Ogunro. "The man resisted and threw away the key of the jeep, hence the armed men shot him. They abandoned the Honda Odyssey and escaped with a red Toyota Yaris car belonging to the wife, who was standing with him on the scene. "The scene was visited immediately by
the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and a team and the incident was confirmed.
The DPO also visited the victim at the Lagoon Hospital where he was receiving treatment, though critical."

Ngozi Braide said the Honda Odyssey was
confirmed to have been snatched from
somebody identified as Ali Balogun at Ebute-
Metta at 8pm. The owner was reportedly
dropped on Jobi-Fele Way in Alausa, Ikeja.

You'll Not Believe What Pastor Kumuyi Has To Say About Celebrating Christmas

The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has again warned members of the church against celebrating Christmas, saying the annual celebration of Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural.

Kumuyi warned that partaking in the
celebration made Christians to go back from the commandment of Jesus Christ.

The cleric said this on Saturday at the annual national December convention of the church, which held at the church's camp ground in Ogun State.

He said, "We don't celebrate Christmas. It
actually came from idolatrous background.
That is why you don't hear us sing what they
call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.

"When you find anybody coming in, or any
leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of
mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don't find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don't find that in the church either. If you don't know that before, now you know."

He warned that any of the church's leaders
that tried to introduce the "idolatry of Christmas" into any section of the church would be sanctioned, while also encouraging other believers in Christ to jettison the celebration as part of their sacrifice to perfection.

Kumuyi said the duty of the church was to
make people more like Jesus Christ and not
join in worldly celebrations.

"We are not trying to make the church turn
like the world. We want it to be like Jesus
Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don't have that mind with us, then you have
permission to go to other places," he added.

But the Director of Social Communications,
Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor
Gabriel Osu, in his reaction to Kumuyi's
proclamation, said, "I don't know what he
means by saying the practice of celebrating
Christmas is wrong.

"Is he saying that Christ wasn't born? That he
didn't come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday? Do Kumuyi's
pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ.

"The celebration of Christmas didn't just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don't know what it is about. "If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God's promise."

"I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement."

The spokesperson for the Christian
Association of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, said that Christmas was worth celebrating.

Otoibhi told one our correspondents in a
telephone interview that the origin of
Christmas was not as important as its essence.

He said, "The origin of Christmas, as we know
it, could be traced to Roman Emperor,
Constantine. Christmas was a day for
celebrating the Sun God. However, because
Constantine was a Christian, the day was
changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

"The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus.
Also, the worship of the Sun God was done in Rome and not everywhere in the world, so it is not part of our history.

"We mark Christmas with the singing of songs as a day, which has now been consecrated."

Stephen Keshi May drop dead before 2014, Rotimi Amaechi Will drop dead Before 2015- Prophet Marcus Tibetan

As the political battle towards 2015 gathers
momentum, a Lagos-based clergyman,
Prophet Marcus Tibetan has revealed that
President Goodluck Jonathan would not
contest the 2015 general elections.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos while
unfolding his predictions for 2014, Prophet
Tibetan said that some powerful forces in the country would conspire to force Mr. Jonathan to drop his 2015 ambition just as he prophesied that the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, will win the elections.

Tibetan said, “PDP will win but not with
Jonathan. PDP has no trouble within it.
Jonathan will not contest. God told me that
the generals have concluded on Jonathan.”

He also urged former the immediate past
governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga
Daniel to pray hard against political
persecution that would lead to his being
jailed for corrupt practices, just as he also
asked another former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala to watch
against paralysis being visited upon him.

The clergyman also advised Rivers State
governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to pray
against premature death as the country
approaches 2015, saying the forces that
eliminated a former national vice-chairman
of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Marshall Harry, might also do the same
to him.

On the 2014 FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil, Tibetan predicted that the Super Eagles would reach the semi-finals, but prayed that nothing negative would happen to the national coach of the team, Mr Stephen Keshi, in the build up to the mundial.

“We are going to make a lot of achievements
in sports. We will do well at the World Cup, if
they [those in authority] should allow
[Stephen] Keshi to perform his duty.

“But my prayer is that Keshi should not drop
dead before that time. If nothing happens to
him, we will reach the semi-finals”, he said.
