60 Nigerian soldiers face trial for mutiny today

Another set of 60 soldiers are to be arraigned before a General Court Martial by military authorities in Abuja on Tuesday (today)   for mutiny.

The soldiers allegedly committed mutiny on August 4, 2014 by refusing to join troops in Maiduguri for “an operation.”
Their arraignment which is to take place at the Sani Abacha Barracks in Abuja comes as The PUNCH gathered on Monday that some of the 12 soldiers convicted on September 15, 2014 by the GCM had notified the Court of Appeal of their intention to challenge their sentences.

Boko Haram kills scores, razes over 500 houses in Adamawa state

Boko Haram men in the early hours of yesterday September 29th launched an attack in Kubi and Watu villages in Michika LGA of Adamawa state, killing scores and burning over 500 houses.

According to a resident of the village, the sect men came very early in the morning when people were still sleeping, setting their homes ablaze and causing them to burn to death in the resulting inferno.

Building collapse: Lagos state govt may prosecute T.B Joshua

It looks like Synagogue leader T.B Joshua will be prosecuted by the Lagos State Government over the collapse of his building on September 12th that left more than 115 people dead.

According to Punch, the state government has set up a coroner of inquest for the purpose of investigating the cause of the building collapse. This was made known in a statement credited to the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, on Sunday.

Man beheads woman, claims men from deceased’s village raped his wife

32-year-old Chinedu Nweke (pictured above) has been arrested for beheading 45-year-old Philomina Nwega in Ebonyi State. Nweke claimed he committed the heinous crime to avenge the serial rape of his wife by men in the murdered woman’s village.

According to Sunday Sun, the horrible incident happened on September 6th in Umuzeoka village in Ezza North LGA of  Ebonyi State. Recounting the bizarre tale, Nweke, a farmer, said men from the village had raped his wife severally, alleging that the repeated vicious act led to a miscarriage.

Soldiers have captured Boko Haram's Monstrous Armored Tank

Nigerian military intelligence officials say they were surprised at the sophisticated weapons being used by the Boko Haram insurgents. The reaction came after Nigerian troops captured a T-55 armored tank and a highly sophisticate Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) from the Islamist insurgents in a heavy fire battle at Konduga, the second biggest town in Borno State.

The sources said Boko Haram fighters made another big and desperate push to take Konduga, a town that has been the scene of incessant battles and disastrous outings for Boko Haram fighters in recent weeks.

3 students shot and in criticial condition after gunmen storm ESUT

Three students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Agbani, are in critical condition at the the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) after being shot and wounded by suspected armed bandits who invaded their hostel, The Nation reports.

The affected students are currently undergoing intensive surgery at the hospital where they were rushed to in the early hours of Saturday. One of the students was shot in the stomach and it was suspected that some pellets of the bullet were lodged in his abdomen for which doctors are battling to remove.

Presidency $1bn Arms Loan Exposed: Belarus Not Helicopter Manufacturing Country

The revelation by the Senate on Thursday that the federal government plans to buy 12 helicopters from the Republic of Belarus to aid the fight against insurgency has raised questions about the genuineness and legality of the move, as facts emerged that Belarus is not a helicopter manufacturing company.

This is even as the country is not listed as a helicopter or aircraft manufacturer on the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) list of manufacturers of aircraft in Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. The list was last edited three months ago.

Many Boko Haram members & Soldiers killed in Konduga again

Both Soldiers of the Nigerian army and Boko Haram terrorists who had engaged in the unyielding battle for the control of the now popular Konduga town in Borno state in the last two days may have lost large number of men on both sides, security sources told Leadership.

It was gathered from impeccable military sources that the Boko Haram terrorists had attacked Konduga town on Thursday night where they met yet another stiff resistance from soldiers on guard of the town, even though some soldiers got killed in the ensuing shootout.

Although the soldiers were said to have managed to repel the attacking Boko Haram gunmen on Thursday night, the insurgents regrouped on Friday morning to launch a reprisal attack.

Meet Doctor who has Successfully Treated Ebola with HIV Drug

He is a doctor in rural Liberia, but has achieved good results out of desperation after he was inundated with Ebola patients, using an HIV drug. CNN reports that Dr. Gobee Logan had given the drug, lamivudine, to 15 Ebola patients, and all but two survived. That's a 7% mortality rate. 

Outside Dr. Logan's Ebola center in Tubmanburg, four of his recovering patients walk the grounds, always staying inside the fence that separates the Ebola patients from everyone else.
