What could have been another tragedy was averted on Thursday when another petrol tanker laden with 33,000 litres of the volatile product fell in the Iju area of Lagos State, spilling some of its contents on the road.
The incident comes less than 24-hours after a petrol tanker crashed into passenger buses in the Kirikiri area of the state, killing no fewer than 15 people.
In the latest incident involving a truck belonging to indigenous oil company, Conoil, with number plate, XB467AKN, an electric pole along Ajuwon Road was also hit but luckily, no life was lost.
It was learnt that fire fighters from Agege Fire Station, as well as technical staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria and policemen prevented vehicles from plying the route while the content of the tanker was being transferred to another vehicle around 8am.
Confirming the incident, Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, said the tanker fell around 2.21am.
"Around 2.21am, another fuel tanker laden with 33,000 litres of petrol fell close to the entrance of Grain Movement premises.
There was heavy spillage of fuel, but we were able to prevent a fire", Fadipe said.
