The on-going war on terrorism in the country has scored a major positive as Nigerian troops stationed at the north-eastern states of Borno and Adamawa successfully thwarted a move by terrorists to carry out a raid on communities along Bilta, Borno state.
This was made known in a press release signed by the director of defence information, Major General Chris Olukolade, who pointed out that the attack was launched on the terrorists as they filed out of their hideout in the forest enroute the communities at about 10 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Over 50 members of the marauding gang were killed after the firce battle that ensued.
According to Olukolade, 30 rifles, 7 machine guns, 36 hand grenades and 11 rocket propelled tubes were recovered by the troops. Also captured were 6 smoke grenades and 3,500 rounds of live ammunition and a number of locally made guns along with 4 vehicles used by the terrorists.
Four of the troops sustained injuries and are presently being treated at an undisclosed military medical facility
